Our Services

The Learning Community offers two types of services:  Small Group Instruction and Individual Instruction/tutoring.   We have many different types of Small Groups described below.

Fall Programs Now Enrolling!

Book Club Connection

Students will embark on a book discovery where they’ll be able to independently read text, write about their thoughts and questions, and talk with their peers in an official book club discussion.  Students will be taught “talk moves” to find ways to better communicate their reading comprehension! 

Grade: Entering 3rd and 4th

Cursive Camp

Cursive Writing  is part of the curriculum in school that sadly does not get the time it deserves during the busy school day. This group will focus on teaching the proper way to write in cursive.  In turn, students will be able to read cursive.   This will be a fun and interactive way to learn a new skill or freshen up skills already learned!

Grade:  2nd-5th

Fast Fact Finders

This group is offered in the summer for students entering 1st and 2nd grade.  Students will receive targeted practice with either their addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division facts.  They will increase their fact fluency through games, site resources, and songs. Security with basic math facts will make a world of difference when they are applied in the classroom!

Grade: 1st and 2nd

Fifth Grade Prep

This group is offered in the summer for students entering 5th grade and will build a students’ confidence before entering the new school year.  This group will review previous skills to maintain what has been learned in the school year prior and also prepare students with the fundamentals for a successful start to 5th grade.

Friendship Skills

In our Friendship Skills groups, students will participate in fun and motivating activities to develop appropriate social skills to enhance interpersonal relationships.

Grades: Entering K-5th
Offered: Year round

Handwriting Instruction-Fine Motor

Students will be practicing handwriting skills and strengthening their fine motor muscles.  The children will learn letter formation, line placement, sizing and spacing.

Grades: Entering K-2nd
Offered: Year round

Hooray for Pre-K Kamp

Pre-K students will have a blast exploring beginning academic concepts, while developing skills in socialization, motor control and phonemic awareness.   The focus of this group will be to keep the rising Pre-K student interacting with peers over the summer in a semi-structured, FUN setting!

Land of Literacy

This group is designed to help students practice and strengthen their Literacy skills in a fun, social atmosphere.   Students will practice reading fluency, comprehension and written responses while also reviewing proper structure of a sentence and a paragraph.

Grades: Entering 3rd-4th

Making Words 

Students will participate in fun, hands-on, standards based activities to help bridge the gap from sound identification to reading and writing simple words. 

Grades: Entering 1st and 2nd
Offered: Year round

Meaningful Math

Offered to  Grades 1 & 2  and Grades 3 & 4:
Students will work to strengthen their math skills in a small group.  The group will focus on various math topics such as fact fluency, word problems, geometry, fractions, time, money and much more.

Grades: Entering 3rd-4th

Orton-Gillingham Reading

Orton-Gillingham certified teachers will provide instruction using the Orton-Gillingham program.  Orton-Gillingham is a highly structured approach that breaks reading and spelling down into smaller skills involving letters and sounds, and then building on these skills over time.

Grades: K-6th
Offered: Year round

Summer Practice Review Groups

These groups are designed to keep your child learning throughout the summer so they avoid the “summer slide”.  Students will review concepts from the previous school year and be introduced to new concepts for the upcoming school year.   Students will have optional homework after each session.

Grades: Entering K, 1st and 2nd

Individual Tutoring/1:1 Instruction

Individual Instruction sessions are tailored to meet the needs of each child.  TLC teachers will use assessments, implement research based instructional strategies and collaborate with parents and classroom teachers, when possible.

Grades: Entering K-6th
Offered: Year round

Word Problem Wizards

Students will work through the steps of math problem solving by learning how to decide whether to use the operation of addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.  They will practice with one and two step problems and will practice modeling their mathematical understandings.

Grades: Entering 3rd and 4th
Offered: August

Wilson Reading Instruction

Wilson certified teachers will provide instruction using the Wilson Reading system.  Wilson Reading is a systematic, multi-sensory approach for decoding (reading) and encoding (spelling).

Grades: K-6th
